A weekend of B’s… birthday, baby blessing & baptism

My mom’s 50th birthday is coming up. She is the most difficult person to surprise. She always has a way of figuring things out. My dad decided to throw her a surprise birthday party. He planned the party to be a month before her birthday so she would not be expecting anything. He planned it for a weekend that we had other family events going on so my mom wouldn’t get suspicious if family and friends came into town. My dad pulled it off…she was completely surprised! It was a fantastic birthday party and I am glad Dave and I were able to go to Vegas to celebrate with her.

My dad rented out the VIP bowling lanes/ party room at Red Rock Hotel & Casino. It was such a fun venue. We had told my mom we wanted to go bowling as a family. She did not suspect anything as we go bowling as a family quite frequently. My sister Lindsey tried to convince my mom to change before we went bowling, but she kept replying “we’re just going bowling and I want to be comfortable.”  When we walked into the party room, my mom was completely surprised. My dad had cool signs made with pictures of my mom when she was little. He used to decorate the party room which was such a great idea. We had a delicious catered lunch and enjoyed a few hours of bowling with music videos in the background and my mom’s friends and family there to celebrate. It truly was a perfect day. Happy birthday mom! Some of the pictures are poor quality. The party room had dim and black lighting which made it hard to take pictures.

Elyssa’s son Ryan got baptized on Sunday. It was such a sweet baptism. He was able to have his own baptism program which was neat because we had a room full of people who love Ryan. It was a very personable and memorable experience for all involved. Benji, Ryan’s younger brother, made us all laugh when he got up to say the opening prayer. He needed a stool to reach the microphone. Someone got up to move the stool over for Benji and he loudly said, “I’m six and I’m a midget.” It was pretty funny.  I am so glad that I could be a part of this wonderful day in Ryan’s life.

My brother, Dave, and sister-in-law, Elyssa, blessed their adorable baby girl at church on Sunday. It was great to be a part of this. I thought it was cute how Dave planned he and Lauren to have matching Burberry outfits. The bottom picture is Lauren with her aunts and mom.

This was a wonderful weekend where so many memories were made! Thank you to everyone who came into town to share in the Newson family events.
